Lesson Four - Conversation

Mauro is talking to Thiago who he has just met in a café. They are having a conversation when Mauro asks Thiago   what he does for a living . . .

Mauro: - What do you do for a living?

Thiago : - I am sorry . Can you run that by me again?

Mauro: - What is your occupation?

Thiago: - I'm an illuminator; I work with filming,lighting and animation  on Oxford street.

Mauro: - An illuminator?? You must have lots of work to do .

Thiago: - Yes I do. I have lots of work. I sometimes get nervous but most of time I try to become more patient , good , serene, trustworthy and friendly person , as well as humble , open , honest and simple. 

Mauro : - That is really interesting. It seems to me that you love your occupation.

Thiago: - Yes I do. What about you Mauro? What  sort of job do you have ?

Mauro: - I am a car mechanic.I fix cars all day long. I like my occupation too, that's why I must learn English as soon as possible.

Thiago: - why?

Mauro: -I work for a multinational company. That's why I’m at a Private English Course .

Thiago: -  What a coincidence! I'm also studying English. Thanks for the chat I have to get back to work now.

Mauro: - Alright.  Thanks  for your time.

T- I'm fine, thanks. What about you?
M- Likewise. Tell me my friend...Did you understand that class about occupation?
T- Yes. I did. Why?
M- Can you explain me what does an accountant do?
T- It's a piece of cake, man!
M- An accountant makes a piece of cake?
T- You are funny bro! . I mean that this question is very easy.
M- Oh my goodness!
T- Well Mauro, as far as I'm concerned an accountant is a person that works with the money and accounts of a company.
M- Congratulations! What about the architect?
T- An architect designs buildings and houses.
M- Very smart! You are really very smart.
T- It's my time to ask , ok?.
M- Go ahead dude! I'm prepared for everything.
T- Ok. Tell me what  an astronomer is...
M- Astronomer? You mean that person who studies the stars and the universe?
T- Are you kidding me? What about the author? What does he do?
M- He writes books and novels.
T- Novels? You mean " Império "  was written by an author?
M- No way! A novel is a romance...a book that tells love stories. " Império" is a soap opera.
T- I didn't know you were an expert in soap opera. lol!.
M- I know you were kidding me. Now tell me...Is there any Baker on your facebook contact list?
T- No. There is not any baker on my facebook's  but there is a bus driver.
M- Who drives buses ?
T- My pal from Manaus does. He is a very good bus driver.
M- My best friend is an actress. She is very famous in Hollywood.
T- Is your best friend a Hollywood actress? What's her name?
M- Her name is Angelina Jolie.
T- If Angelina Jolie is your friend , she certainly knows  my online date.
M- Your what? I didn't know you have a date. Who is she? Is she a famous somebody?
T- Of course she is. Did you hear that song " Someone like you "?
M- Yes, I heard  it. I love that song. The wonderful Adelle sings it , right?
T- Oh my gosh! You told her name! She is so sweet!.
M- Are you dating Adelle? Oh my goodness!
T- Our secret bro. Adelle is just a good friend for good moments. As a matter of fact my real date is a singer named Beyoncee.
M- No way!!!
